Summary:

This investigation responds to a Ministerial Direction to undertake an independent audit of the implementation of commitments in the Molonglo Valley Plan for the Protection of Matters of National Environmental Significance (NES Plan) for the Molonglo Valley Strategic Assessment.

Matters of National Environmental Significance are protected under the Commonwealth Government’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, through the Molonglo Valley Strategic Assessment, an agreement between ACT and Commonwealth Governments.

This is the first independent audit of implementation of the Molonglo Valley Strategic Assessment.

The ACT Government agreed or agreed in principle to the twelve recommendations in this report.

Four Corrective Action Requests were issued. These have been addressed and the audit closed.

The next audit is due 2022.
