What is a Web feed?

A Web feed will allow you to see when a website has added new content. You can get the latest headlines in one place, as soon as it's published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.

Feeds are also known as RSS (Really Simple Syndication). They are just web pages designed to be read by computers rather than people.

How do I get an RSS reader?

To subscribe to a Web feed you will need an RSS reader. There are a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different RSS readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer.

Once you have chosen your RSS reader you can select a Web feed in a couple of different ways, including:

  • Drag the URL of the news feed into your news reader.
  • Cut and paste the URL of the news feed into your news reader.

If Internet Explorer 7 is your prefered browser, it automatically detects news feeds. When a news feed is present you should see an RSS feed button RSS feed graphic highlighted in your toolbar.
