Contaminated sites
What the results tell us for Palerang
Palerang Council noted three confirmed contaminated sites and eight potentially contaminated sites in the council area (see Table 1). The sites were within the former Yarrowlumla and Tallaganda shires, which were incorporated into the new Palerang Council Area in February 2004. Some of these sites were reported in the 2000 State of the Environment Report for Yarrowlumla (OCE 2000) which also noted tip sites in Bungendore, Captains Flat and Macs Reef Road. The latter three sites are all within the Palerang Council Area boundary.
Sites that were considered to be potentially contaminated in Tallaganda in 2000 (OCE 2000) included seven disused service stations, six (then) current service stations and garages, a chemical outlet at Braidwood, sheep-dip sites, disused mines, and LPG storage facilities at the Braidwood District Hospital, Braidwood Central School, the Servicemen's Club and the Chinese restaurant in the village.
None of the sites listed in Table 1 were remediated during the reporting period. The sites known to council are kept in its records, and advice is provided to property owners and new purchasers when a Development Application is brought before council.
